Excitement in Product Design
May 2, 2016
In April, our Product Design Program was ranked as one of the top 30 Industrial Design Degrees by College Values Online, and the ranking spoke specifically to the lasting value of acquiring this Westphal Degree. The growing Product Design program is excited to welcome Joshua Ben Longo as a new faculty member who will oversee the program’s Making Lab. Joshua graduated from Pratt Institute in 2003 with a degree in Industrial Design. He then spent several years designing products for the home, while showing his own artwork including sculptures, furniture, and paintings under the pseudonym “Longoland”. His artwork and designs have been exhibited internationally in Paris, Antwerp, Berlin, and across the United States. Joshua currently divides his time designing product for several home décor companies, sharing his expertise at design lectures and panels, building his reputation as an international artist/designer, and teaching Product Design at Westphal.
The Product Design Program has also been invited to display student work at this year’s International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) May 14-17 at the Javits Center, NYC. This is a prestigious honor as only a handful of schools are invited each year and offered a space and we look forward to further reporting on our students’ work in an upcoming edition of this newsletter.
